Our works have been quite diverse, but we never thought we’d be designing a trophy that awarded the achievements of SA’s local bioscience sector. In our brief with Bio SA, a typical acrylic tombstone example emerged and was given to us to consider to use. With previous branded projects for Bio SA, we always delivered compelling and original graphic and digital works, merchandise and signage, so we knew we could excite them with our “out of the box” thinking. We modelled a 3D glass design, capturing the form and colour palette around their spiral logo look. This spoke to the progressive and innovative approach that was intentionally created within their Annual Award Events. In collaboration with SA’s Jam Factory and the Glass Department, a unique series of two tone glass trophies (with a hole) was made. We mentioned the “hole” as we were first informed that it could not be done, with 2 colours and a 30 degree angle. But we all persisted, researched overseas methods and examples and presented a striking keepsake. These striking trophies (or awards) were dedicated to SA organisations and individuals, whose achievements were recognised with outstanding contributions towards SA’s bioscience industry. (Side note: we were also told, at the time, the State Premier loved the design and had one in his office).
